- Is a member of the family Triakidae (houndsharks)
- Can grow to 1.9m in length
- Grey with small white spots along the dorsal surface
- Lacks sharp teeth, hence the name “gummy”
- Sold in fish and chip shops as “flake”
- Often caught when targeting snapper from a boat, or when beach fishing at night
- Sand crabs are good bait for gummies when beach fishing
- Prefers sandy substrates or patch reef/sand
- Endemic to Australia’s temperate waters from southern QLD to WA
- Good eating
